Financial Aid Management Consultant/PowerFAIDS Systems Analyst

The Higher Education Assistance Group, Inc. (HEAG), a multi-faceted financial aid consulting company, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Financial Aid Management Consultant/PowerFAIDS Systems Analyst. This position will provide financial aid functional and management support to HEAG clients and internal HEAG consultants, as appropriate.  Demonstrated expertise in PowerFAIDS, Title IV regulations and institutional best practices, along with proficiency in Department of Education software (CPS, COD, EdExpress, etc.) are required.  Position requirements are as follows:

Critical Skill Set:

  • Critical and in-depth understanding of the following:
    • PowerFAIDS system programming, data analysis, testing, workflow, and all system level processes related to file imports and exports, data integration (preferably with Jenzabar systems), student communications (Award and Missing Item Letters (MIL)), awarding, verification, SAP, disbursement, withdrawal, R2T4 and reconciliation processes)
    • Powerfaids Batch transactions
      • Naming conventions
      • Repositories and shared drives
      • Scheduling and monitoring
    • Federal and state Title IV regulations
    • COD system workflow, files, reports and processes
    • ED Express system workflow, files, reports and processes
    • CPS system workflow, files, reports and processes
    • NSLDS system workflow, files, reports and processes
    • ED Connect
  • Data analysis capabilities
    • Ability to analyze testing outcomes to determine additional programming needs
    • Ability to identify chronological order of transactions and functions
    • Ability to identify compliance risks and develop action plans for resolution
    • Ability to effectively communicate needs and changes to client and HEAG staff
  • Financial aid management skills
    • Ability to manage client daily financial aid operations including but not limited to ISIR Review, Verification, R2T4, SAP, Pell and Direct Loan Processing.
    • Provide regulatory guidance, training and mentoring to clients and/or colleagues
    • Ability to carry out a quality assurance plan as designed by the Vice President
  • Problem solving skills
    • Understand how to build, execute and analyze data and transactions
    • Ability to identify and catalog any discrepancies that result from data research
    • Communicate needs and track timeline for resolution of errors
  • Strong organizational skills
    • Track/log all programming changes, testing outcomes and resolutions per client needs
    • Identify and catalog any potential audit/compliance risks
    • Ability to effectively multi-task and meet establish deadlines

    • Ability to manage multiple team members performing a variety of Title IV functions
    • Asks questions, document and communicate answers
    • Document and share work performed and work still required
    • Communicate with Vice President, Lead Consultant or project management team regularly, or as defined

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 3 years direct, functional PowerFAIDS maintenance responsibilities
  • Minimum 5 years direct, functional Financial Aid Office experience
  • Staff management experience a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PowerFAIDS and Department of Education software, coupled with a strong knowledge of financial aid processing, regulatory requirements, best practices, as well as a technical understanding of automating and integrating financial aid processes and systems.
  • Excellent communication skills including a demonstrated ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage vertically and horizontally (direct reports, colleagues, executive staff)
  • Ability to travel weekly if needed

Project Manager/Financial Aid Consultant

The Higher Education Assistance Group, Inc. (HEAG), a comprehensive financial aid consulting group based in Wellesley, MA, has an immediate opening for a Project Manager/Financial Aid Consultant to work with a client in the area of Central Massachusetts on short-term, full-time basis.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be competent and well-versed in the compliant administration of Title IV Student Financial Aid Programs and able to manage responsibilities in a strategic, yet functional capacity.
  • Ability to navigate through other Title IV-related compliance requirements impacting other departments across campus (Admission, Registrar, Bursar, etc.).
  • Must have an understanding of student services within a Higher Education environment.
  • Have solid understanding of Massachusetts State Financial Aid including programs, eligibility and reporting requirements.
  • Must be familiar with Student Information Systems and critical Title IV related compliance requirements.
  • Must have general Technical Understanding.
  • Manage both planning and implementation phases of project including: defining scope, creating a detailed work plan, managing resources, developing project schedules, executing the project plan, monitoring progress, applying adjustments when needed and ensuring the project is completed as defined by the final project plan.
  • Must lead by initiating collaboration, asking questions, documenting responses and exploring alternative methods and process improvements.
  • Completes projects by coordinating resources and timetables with user departments.
  • Create and Deliver Financial Aid Subject Matter Training materials.
  • Must have the ability to research complex compliance issues and communicate findings and other important issues effectively to all college staff, including Executives.

Experience/Skill Set:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, Masters preferred.
  • 6-10 years in a management level role in Student Services and/or Enrollment Management, ideally in a leadership role in financial aid.
  • A strong understanding of financial aid compliance, as well as admissions, registrar and bursar Title IV related functions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with a range of on-campus personnel.
  • Exceptional coordination abilities.
  • General understanding of Integrated Student Information Systems.
  • Prior project management experience is a strong plus, but not mandatory.
  • Prior Financial Aid consulting experience is a strong plus, but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience with Jenzabar CX/JX and/or PowerFAIDS, preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience with ImageNow is a plus.

To be considered, the candidate must have the ability to be onsite with the client weekly beginning in April 2017 through June 2017.  Possible consideration for future assignments will be evaluated at the end of current contract.

Director Level Consultants

The Higher Education Assistance Group, Inc. (HEAG) has an immediate opening for a full-time Director Level Financial Aid Consultant to work with our clients throughout the country. We are seeking a candidate with at least 4-5 years of recent Director Level supervisory and leadership responsibilities in a Financial Aid Office.  Prior Financial Aid consulting experience is a strong plus, but not mandatory.  The Director Level consultant must be able to fill “Interim Director of Financial Aid” positions for a diverse base of client schools, with direct knowledge of resolving complex compliance issues.  Candidates must be competent and well versed in the compliant administration of Title IV Student Financial Aid Programs and able to manage responsibilities in a strategic, yet functional capacity.  Candidates must have strong Ellucian Banner/Colleague, PowerFAIDS, Peoplesoft, Campusvue, Jenzabar, or other FA Student Information System experience, including Department of Education software.  Candidates must also have the ability to research complex compliance issues and communicate findings and other important issues effectively to non-FA staff, including Executives.  Contracted assignments can be both short and long term and may include travel.  The Higher Education Assistance Group, Inc. Financial Aid Consultant and Financial Aid Systems Analyst

(HEAG) is seeking several qualified candidates for the following positions: Financial Aid Consultant and Financial Aid Systems Analyst.  These positions will provide functional financial aid as well as university based software support to schools. Demonstrated proficiency required in any or all of the following applications: Ellucian Banner/Datatel, PowerFAIDS, PeopleSoft, CampusVue, Jenzabar, Department of Education software and/or similar applications, coupled with a strong knowledge of financial aid processing and/or a technical understanding of automating financial aid processes. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills including a demonstrated ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical staff. Qualified candidates should understand that this position requires a reasonable amount of travel. Assignments can be both short term and long term on a contract basis.
