Janice Garza has over 20 years of experience in the financial aid office, beginning this journey as a student worker. Over the years, she has held various positions such as an advisor, financial literacy technician, loan advisor, associate director, quality assurance manager, and most recently the executive director of financial aid. She has worked at community colleges and four- year public universities where she has gained an extensive background in Title IV regulations. Her wide-range experiences include creating/implementing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance, calculating R2T4s, processing professional judgment requests (including SAP appeals, unusual, and special circumstances), and performing federal verification, awarding/disbursing/administering federal, state, and institutional aid.

In addition, she is well versed in quality assurance compliance and audits. She is also known for her excellent customer service, conflict resolution, and team development and organization. She also has experience working with admissions, with outreach and recruitment. Janice is proficient in Colleague, Banner, People Soft, COD, NSLDS, Academic Works, and Scholarship Universe. Janice’s educational background includes a master’s degree in Adult Education which has presented opportunities for her to create and implement an extensive financial aid training program and teach a college introductory course. She has recently been accepted into the Higher Education Administration and Leadership doctoral program at Texas A &M University – Kingsville and possesses all 16 NASFAA credentials
