On January 23, 2019, the Department of Education released the Pell grant payment charts for the 2019-2020 award year. On our blog this fall, we discussed how the maximum Pell grant was slated to increase by $100 from the 2018-2019 award year based on the Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act, 2019 and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2019 signed into law on September 28, 2018. The bill increased the overall Department of Education FY2019 budget and featured access to additional resources for low income students and borrowers who work in public service.

As a result, the maximum Pell grant award for 2019-2020 is $6,195 for eligible students with a 0 EFC (make sure to read additional awarding guidance provided in the Dear Colleague Letter linked below). In addition to increasing the maximum Pell, overall Pell eligibility expanded to include students with an expected family contribution (EFC) of up to 5,576. An increase from last year’s max Pell eligible EFC at 5,486.

The full payment schedules and additional awarding guidance can be found in the links below. As stated in the Dear Colleague Letter, keep an eye out for future announcements regarding ED system and software modifications to reflect the recently released tables.
