Changes made to the application processing system

admin ., Financial Aid Industry News

For the last several years there seems to have been constant changes made to the application processing system. More ISIR codes and integration of  IRS information  made up many of these changes.  The Department of Education put out an electronic announcement on November 4, 2011 titled:  2012-2013 Summary of Changes for the Application Processing Guide, which discusses the major changes involved in processing the 2012-2013 FAFSA information. This 59 page guide is designed to meet the reference needs of the financial aid staff.  Here are a couple of important changes.

  • IRS Data Retrieval Tool Enhancements
  • Homeless Youth Determination Reporting Changes
  • Need Analysis Threshold Increase
  • Enable FAAs to Override Rejects for changes to student’s marital status

These are just a few of the changes.  Please take a minute to review the guide on the IFAP website (www.ifap.ed.gov), so there are no surprises  when you start processing for the 2012-2013 award year.  As always if you need help with implementing any of these new changes, contact HEAG at www.heag.us.
